Presidential Recognition: Honoring Dr. Muhammad Tariq Masood’s Exceptional Thalassemia Treatment Innovations

Dr. Muhamamd Tariq Masood, associate professor of haematology at PIMC-PIMS Peshawar, has been awarded the prestigious Presidential Certificate of Appreciation for his groundbreaking work in treating thalassemia patients. Thalassemia is a serious genetic blood disorder that significantly affects a patient’s quality of life. Dr. Tariq Masood’s most significant contribution lies in developing an innovative treatment strategy that demonstrably improves health outcomes of transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients. This novel approach successfully reduces disease severity, allowing patients to achieve transfusion independence, a life-altering milestone. Dr. Tariq leads a collaborative research effort involving eight MPhil and PhD students from four national and international institutions, all aiming to refine current treatment strategies for thalassemia. He also has more than 30 reseasrch articles and a book chapter to his credit.
